I’m Jay, your new Students’ Association President, here for the next year to represent you and make sure your voice is heard! Well, Where do I start?
I’m Jay, your new Students’ Association President, here for the next year to represent you and make sure your voice is heard! I ‘ve been on the job for a couple of weeks now, diving into the work you elected me to do, so I thought it was time to introduce myself and let you know what I have been up to.
A little bit about me!
I am a fellow Arden student (currently taking a break from my project management studies at Tower Hill campus). I’m also a family guy, a table tennis enthusiast, and someone who genuinely cares about helping others- sometimes that lands me in some interesting situations! But it’s the commitment to people that’s at the core of what I bring to this role, and I am excited to put it to work for you. And, hey, if you ever want a table tennis challenge, I’m game!
What I have been up to?
In my first weeks, I have been learning about how our student Association has come – from barely existing to become a student- led organisation with real influence. I have also met with key University leaders who are just as dedicated as I am to make sure that Arden students have the best possible experience. I’m impressed by the work already underway to strengthen student support and excited to be part of pushing that forward.
To build our influence beyond campus, because I believe students are more than just their classes, and that they can be impacted by things that are outside of Arden control, I have started connecting with student unions officers across London. We are working on forming a London student partnership to lobby local officials on issues that matter to students- because as we know student experience is about so much more than just academics.
What’s Next?
I want to hear from you! My big priority over the next year is connecting with you on what matters most to you, and some of the things we are currently working on which includes:
- Cost of Living: Your responses to our recent cost of living survey will help shape recommendations we make to the university and inform the action we take through our growing regional partnerships.
- Campus Events and Engagement: I will be running town halls, focus groups and open discussions to make sure your voice is at the centre of everything we do. Whether is course feedback, key student issues, or how the student Association itself should involve, I’m here to listen- and act.
These are just the two big opportunities for now, I will keep you in the loop and share more ways to get involve as we go, but for now, I’d love you to stay connected.
